Hranush Hakobyan: “All these events showed not only the pain and suffering of the Armenians, but also their unity, and that’s something that we can only be proud of”

During a May 22 press conference, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan divided the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in the Armenian Diaspora into six groups.

The first group of events includes the political events, including the decisions and resolutions on condemnation of the Armenian Genocide adopted by various countries. Armenian communities played a huge role in the adoption of those decisions and resolutions.

The largest demonstrations condemning the Armenian Genocide were held in the USA, Lebanon and other countries.

The second group includes advocacy. People hadn’t talked about the Armenian Genocide over the past 95 years as much as they have talked about it over the past 3-4 years. The world’s most prestigious media outlets covered the Armenian Genocide. The Media Forum held in Yerevan and the work of more than 220 Armenian media outlets of the Armenian Diaspora played a huge role in this.

The third group included research and scientific activities. Scientific conferences were held at all prestigious universities and in the parliaments of certain countries. There were even discussions at Turkish universities.

The fourth group included publications of books. Books, works and novels about the Armenian Genocide have been published in almost all languages of the world.

The RA Ministry of Diaspora also published books. Among the books, Minister Hranush Hakobyan set aside Vigen Kocharyan’s book “The Armenian Genocide in International Documents” and the illustrated book entitled “Monuments of Sorrow, Remembrance and Struggle”.

The fifth group included community programs, cultural events and events of acknowledgements.

The sixth group included ecclesiastical events. Hranush Hakobyan mentioned that holy masses and church ceremonies were held in various countries and that the climax was the internationally significant Holy Mass that the Pope served at the Vatican on April 12, the declaration of Grigor Narekatsi as the Doctor of the Church, as well as the Canonization ceremony held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

According to the minister, all these events and initiatives not only showed the pain and suffering of the Armenian people, but also showed that the Armenians are organized and united as one and that this is something that we can only be proud of.
