Syrian-Armenian singer: “Armenian music is my greatest treasure” (video)

Syrian-Armenian singer Lena Shamamian, who recently gave a concert in Istanbul, gave an interview to the Armenian Agos Weekly.

Shamamian, who is one of the best Arab singers, mentioned that Armenian music is her greatest treasure.

“All Armenians are in the same situation. We all know the languages of our countries of residence. If we don’t have knowledge of those languages, we can’t communicate with the people around us. It’s very important for me to speak Arabic and write songs in Arabic. However, Armenian music is my greatest treasure. If I don’t sing in Arabic, Armenian music won’t mean anything to the Arabs. However, when I perform a song in Arabic under the influence of Armenian music, people know what Armenian music is about. In Syria everyone knows that the Armenians are considered a part of the country’s society and preserve their national identity at the same time. No matter how much difficulty we have faced, we Armenians find the ways to start over. This peculiarity of our identity is very important for me,” Lena Shamamian said.

Lena Shamamian is a Syrian-Armenian singer. She was born in Damascus and started singing at the age of 5. She has won awards at various international music competitions. Lena sings Oriental jazz. In addition to Arabic songs, Lena also performs Armenian songs, one of which is the song “Sareri Hovin Mernem”.
