Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed

Armenia and the European Union signed the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

The document was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. Among the attendees of the signing were President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of the Council of Europe Donald Tusk.

Currently, Mogherini and Nalbandyan are issuing a statement for the press.

“This is the joint success of all of us and can become a positive precedent for other cooperation programs,” President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had said in his speech earlier.

The President had also stated that the year 2017 can truly be considered one of the major milestones in the 25-year history of relations between Armenia and the European Union that is marked by the signing of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement held on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership Summit.

“It is a comprehensive document that reflects the recent significant developments of our bilateral partnership and sets the benchmarks required for deepening of that partnership.

This Agreement is not just a new legal document, but a reflection of the system of values hinged on human rights and fundamental liberties that we have faith in. The Agreement underlies major provisions for radicalization of democracy such as the rule of law, the strengthening of justice, the development of state and non-governmental institutions and good governance. The effective implementation of these provisions is important from the perspective of successful implementation of future reforms in our country,” he said.
