“Half joke, half serious”-Meeting with Narek Duryan
The “Harmonia” Public Center for Psychological Development and the Diaspora Armenian Students’ Council hosted the third meeting that is part of the program called “Listen to What I Have to Say”. The guest of the third meeting was well-known actor Narek Duryan.
The meeting was held in a question-and-answer format, providing not only the guest, but also the participants with the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers. The meeting ended in a warm atmosphere, and nobody wanted to leave. The meeting was devoted to the arts, literature, language, religion and definitely the revelation of man.
During the meeting, it became clear that the important thing for Narek Duryan is to make sure Armenia isn’t isolated. According to him, the contributing factor is the closure of Russian and English language schools that hinder the country’s advancement. “You can’t be a patriot by simply speaking Armenian fluently. My generation wasn’t “patriotic”, but we would never hear rabiz music (low-class music) at the Philharmonic. We would speak in Russian, but we were also fluent in our native language, and it wasn’t just about writing good essays,” Narek Duryan mentioned.
“Once again, I became convinced that the titles given to artists are determined by the people. Mr. Duryan is a people’s artist, and evidence of that are our eyes that were shining and the two-and-a-half hour meeting, which we got a lot out of. Further evidence is the fact that the organizers of the program have achieved their goal of sharing life experiences,” one of the participants, Tatev Matinyan, said.
According to director of the “Harmonia” Public Center for Psychological Development Ashkhen Mkoyan, the meeting was very effective. “The results were more than what we expected. We held a very cordial meeting with jokes and conversations. I thank Mr. Duryan for sharing his stories and experiences with us. I believe there truly is a need for such meetings, and evidence of that is the youth’s activism and their motivation that is growing day after day.”
