Young political figures of the South Caucasus address Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during forum
Members of the youth organization of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) participated in the Forum for Young Political Figures of the South Caucasus held in the Parliament of Georgia in Kutais, Georgia on 29-30 June. The forum was organized by the Netherlands Institute of Multiparty Democracy and brought together 15 young political figures from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan representing different political parties of their respective countries.
The forum was composed of three parts, including “European Neighborhood Policy: Viewpoints from the European Union and the South Caucasus”, “Challenges Facing Global Security: View from the South Caucasus” and “Economic Cooperation: EU-South Caucasus”.
The event began with a speech by representative of the RPA youth organization Suren Petrosyan, who touched upon the European Neighborhood Policy, Armenia’s European integration processes and the trends in the development of democracy in Armenia.
The forum was held in a rather heated atmosphere. The delegates addressed conflicts and raised the issue related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “As a rule, the Azerbaijani delegates had a destructive approach, but they received an adequate response from the organizers and the youth representing Armenia’s different political parties. The Armenian delegates proposed a document that would include the points on which the youth were able to establish cooperation without preconditions and in a civilized atmosphere. The proposal was approved by the organizers and the EU representatives, and a communiqué establishing the need for strengthening of peaceful negotiations and effective cooperation between the countries of the South Caucasus was prepared and adopted in a unanimous vote,” as stated in the message disseminated by the RPA youth organization.
