South Caucasus Railways developing cooperation with Iran to build a Southern Railway

During his visit to Iran last week, General Director of South Caucasus Railways Victor Rebets had meetings with the heads of the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Transport.

During the meetings, the sides discussed the perspectives of the construction of a South Railway, the amount of transfers to be made and the opportunities for building a new logistics center on the basis of the Armenian Yeraskh station.

The launch of the roughly 3 billion dollar “Southern Railway of Armenia” and “Southern Express Road of Armenia” projects had been announced in January 2013, and a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding was signed between SRA CJSC, the RA Ministry of Transport and Communication and the Rasia FZE Company, which is registered in the United Arab Emirates.

Based in Dubai, the Rasia Company is already carrying out large-scale activities on the basis of the strategy to create a consortium for working on the technical and economic justifications of the projects, as well as their planning, funding, development and exploitation.
