April issue of Turkish magazine to be devoted to Armenian Genocide
The entire issue of Turkey’s Evrensel Kültür magazine will be devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.
According to ermenihaber.am, on Evrensel Kültür magazine’s website it is posted that the magazine editors will be examining the pain and shame of 100 years from the perspective of history, culture and the arts. To understand what the Turks lost without the Armenians, the issue needs to be examined not only with a feeling of remorse and with reason, but also through the prism of history, language, arts and crafts, literature and other “riches” that make a person a human being.
The magazine will feature the articles of famous writers and journalists who will present the emptiness that was felt after the disappearance of the Armenians. Readers will see articles devoted to the contributions that Armenians have made in different spheres. In Nejmiye Alpay’s article, readers will learn about the role that Armenian linguists played in linguistics, starting from the first general secretary of the Turkish Linguistic Society Hagop Dilachar (Martaian) and ending with Sevan Nishanian.
There will also be articles devoted to Armenian masters of Turkish cinema, the role of Armenians in Turkish theater, Armenian music, as well as the image of Armenians and the views on the Armenian Genocide in Turkish novels.
The magazine will also include an article devoted to the memoir entitled “20 Guillotines” by Armenian clergyman Galust Boghosian, who wrote about the execution of 20 members of the Hunchakian Party in 1915 that he personally witnessed. The book was first printed in Armenian in 1921. Currently, Evrensel Publishing House is preparing to publish the book’s Turkish version.
