U.S. media representatives speaking out about importance of teaching history of Armenian Genocide

The issue of Armenian Genocide education at schools in California is still in the focus of U.S. media. According to “Armenpress”, this time yourcentralvalley.com has covered the issue. As posted on the website, out of the 30 teachers attending a national teacher’s conference in California, only 2 knew about the Armenian Genocide. “Unfortunately, out of all the genocides perpetrated in the past century, the first genocide of the 20th century is the least known. Due to reasons known to us all, this is a fact that fills the local Armenians with indignation, the Armenians who are inheritors of Armenian Genocide survivors and who lost their family and relatives during the massacres organized by Ottoman Turkey,” as posted on the website. It is also stated that over the past years, Armenian Genocide education has been included in the curriculum for 10th grade students at high schools in California. The recently adopted bill lays down the publication of new history textbooks that will include information about the Armenian Genocide. Children attending schools in Fresno learn about the Armenian Genocide at a very early age. They learn Armenian music in elementary school, and later learn about the Armenian Genocide in high school. In August 2014, the California State Senate passed the Armenian Genocide Education Act (AB 1915), which was authored by Senator Adrin Nazarian.
