Armenian organizations call on Estonian government to recognize the Armenian Genocide
For three days, several Armenian organizations sent over 500 e-mails to the office of Estonia’s Prime Minister, the leaders of parliament and the country’s top media outlets, calling on them to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide. The campaign is part of the action “2 Steps, 1 Minute for 1.5 Million”.
As the action’s coordinator Lilit Mkrtchyan told “Armenpress”, the campaign will continue until the end of this week. Estonian authorities and media outlets will continue to receive letters from citizens of Armenia and representatives from different countries around the world. The action “2 Steps, 1 Minute for 1.5 Million” is organized by the School for Young Leaders and the Association of Young Legal Historians.
The goal of the campaign is to inform the countries not having recognized the Armenian Genocide about the first genocide of the 20th century and call on them to recognize “the Great Catastrophe of the Armenians”. Every week, the organizers of the campaign will announce the name of a country and will send e-mails to the country that hasn’t recognized the Armenian Genocide.
The first week is the Week of Estonia. The organizers call on everyone to show active participation and make a contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. “The more people send e-mails, the more the particular country’s media will be interested. If even one copy of this letter is published in the target press, that will already be 1 step towards that country’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide,” say the organizers.
