A hundred years after the Armenian Genocide, Armenian pilgrims from Armenia have the chance to celebrate Easter at the Holy Cross Armenian Church located on Akhtamar Island in Van, as co-founder of Narekavank Tour Armen Hovhannisyan said in an interview with NEWS.am.
Armen Hovhannisyan said Narekavank Tour was organizing a special pilgrimage to celebrate Easter at the Holy Cross Armenian Church in Akhtamar. “On April 5th, we will take Armenians to the Akhtamar Island in Van. There won’t be a Mass since the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople serves a Holy Mass at the Holy Cross Armenian Church on the second Sunday of September of each year. There won’t be a Holy Mass, but we will say a prayer,” Armen Hovhannisyan said, emphasizing the fact that few Armenians visit Akhtamar in April.
According to him, in April one can admire the almond trees and the snow-covered Tavros mountains in front of the island.
Armen Hovhannisyan reminded that Narekavank Tour is also organizing tours to the Saint Tadeh and Saint Stepanos Nakhavka Armenian Churches in Iran on Easter.
