Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is first and foremost in Turkey’s interests

I truly and honestly believe that recognition of the Armenian Genocide is first and foremost in the interests of the Turkish government and society since it’s very hard to live “with such a skeleton in the closet” for years.

This is what secretary of the State Commission on Coordination of the events for the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Chief of Staff of the RA President Vigen Sargsyan said during the “At the Foot of Mount Ararat” international media forum that kicked off today in Yerevan, according to mediamax.

According to Sargsyan, there has been a certain movement for recognition in Turkish society over the past couple of years, but the fact that the Turkish government continues to spend tremendous amounts of money for the denial of the Armenian Genocide is irrefutable.

“One of the recent actions was the invitation to international leaders to celebrate the victory in the Battle of Gallipoli on April 24th, but we all know that that battle neither started nor ended on that day. The countries that will participate in the events on that day either don’t realize the trap that Turkey has prepared, or political considerations are more important for them than historical justice,” Vigen Sargsyan mentioned.

According to him, Turkey continues its hostile policy against Armenia, and the closed Armenian-Turkish border is “the last piece of the Iron Curtain that has not only remained, but continues to divide neighboring countries”.

“The goal is to make Armenia make more concessions in regard to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations. Turkey is also leading a hostile policy within international organizations as it overtly supports Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian initiatives,” Vigen Sargsyan said.
