The chess tournament was launched after the Requiem Service. Spiritual pastor of the Saint Sargis Armenian Church of Diliska, Father, Priest Tigran Mkhitaryan said the following as he addressed the gathered:
“Our demand is fair, our souls are eternal, our minds are undefeated-these are the principles by which we have lived and continue to live. Today, we are all in the house of God. We prayed for the souls of our martyred brothers and sisters to rest in peace, and now, as we ask the Lord for his blessing and piety, for the first time in this church, we will be holding a chess tournament dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. We pray and wish that Our Lord Jesus Christ grant good health and happiness to us for the glory of the Armenian People and the Armenian Church…”
The event began with a performance by the spiritual choir of the Saint Sargis Armenian Church led by Lusya Chobanyan. Thirty two chess players participated in the chess tournament.
