Government to terminate criminal cases against those having escaped military service
The Ministry of Diaspora is offering once again to terminate the criminal cases against people who haven’t completed compulsory military service in accordance with the existing procedure. The draft of the corresponding amendment to the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On Military Duty” was approved during the Government’s February 26 session.
The written justification for the law states that citizens having avoided compulsory military service and have attained the age of 27 shall not return to Armenia since there are cases instigated against them. Four amendments have been made to the law to terminate criminal persecution, and now the fifth amendment is being proposed.
Those amendments served as a great impetus for thousands of young Armenians to return to the homeland, as stated in the justification. Let us mention that the returnees must pay a certain amount to the state budget, based on the number of conscripts that have been released, writes News.am.
