Jahn Otto Johansen presents book “Armenian Genocide” in Oslo

On January 22, P.E.N. Association’s branch organized the presentation of the book “Armenian Genocide” by famous Norwegian correspondent, writer, Professor of the University of Oslo Jahn Otto Johansen at the hall of the Norwegian Frit Ord organization for freedom of speech. The book provides the wider layers of Norwegians with the opportunity to learn the facts about the Armenian Genocide and the analyses, as the RA MFA press service reports.
Among those participating in the event were famous public and political figures, diplomats, academics, as well as members of the Norwegian-Armenian community and journalists.
Among the speakers were lawyer Hanne Sofi Greve; historian, expert of Norway’s leading Civita analytical center Bord Larsen and writer, Turkologist Eugene Schulgin.
In his speech, Jahn Otto Johansen mentioned that his book is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and that it’s not targeted against the Turks, even though Turkey denies the Armenian Genocide with aggression.
In his speech, Bord Larsen emphasized the fact that what happened to the Armenians is definitely genocide, which is a legal category with all the legal consequences that derive from it. “The perpetration of the Armenian Genocide was first and foremost the psychological reaction to the Turks’ identity crisis following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire,” Bord Larsen mentioned.
“The Armenian Genocide must not be denied. It was genocide in its most brutal manifestations,” former judge of the European Court of Human Rights Hanne Sophie Greve mentioned in her speech.
The event included performances of classical music by pianist Mariam Kharatyan.
