FIDE grants title of grosmeister to 13-year old Armenian American chess player
Chess player Sam Sevian, 13, performed brilliantly at the round-robin chess tournament in St. Louis, scoring 5.5 points out of the possible 6 points and winning first place.
After the fourth round, Sam exceeded the 2,500th mark, after which FIDE officially decided to grant the title of grosmeister to the young Armenian chess player.
Sevian was born and raised in the USA, but loves Armenia’s chess players and follows up on their achievements. Today, Sevian even exceeds Bobby Fisher in the history of U.S. chess. Fisher won the title of grosmeister at the age of 15, while Sevian won it at the age of 13.
