Turkish FM: “It’s impossible for Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide”

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu has provided the foreign relations committee of the Mejlis with information about the actions that Turkey will be taking in terms of foreign policy.

According to Ermenihaber.am, in his speech, Cavusoglu also touched upon the Armenian Cause. “It’s impossible for us to recognize the genocide that they want to ascribe to our ancestors and people. We always emphasize this,” the Turk minister said.

Cavusoglu also touched upon the case of leader of the Labor Party of Turkey Dogu Perincek, who denied the Armenian Genocide in Switzerland. Cavusoglu informed that Turkey is closely following the case of Dogu Perincek that Switzerland is appealing in the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Let us remind that on 9 March 2007, the court of Vo Canton of Switzerland announced that Perincek has criminal and administrative liability for publicly denying the Armenian Genocide. In December 2013, the ECHR ruled that Switzerland has violated the freedom of expression of the appealer, in this case Perincek. Later, the Swiss side appealed to the European Court of Human Rights with the demand to reconsider the case in the Grand Chamber. After a while, the ECHR decided to examine the appeal.
