Haykashen Uzunian Awards serve as a unique bridge between Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora

On October 27, at the invitation of Tekeyan Cultural Association, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan participated in the Haykashen Uzunian Awards for Best Works in Armenology and Literature. The award ceremony is held once every two years.
In his opening remarks, Editor-in-Chief of Azg Daily Hakob Avetikyan congratulated the authors for their brilliant works and particularly mentioned: “Since 1966, the top Armenian intellectuals have been granted the Haykashen Uzunian Award, which was set by notable Diaspora Armenian public and political figure Haykashen Uzunian. It is the longest standing award that was set for Diaspora Armenian creators, regardless of ideologies, political affiliation and religion.”
Avetikyan’s speech was followed by a speech by RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, who congratulated the authors on the release of their books and particularly mentioned: “The award ceremony named after prestigious leader of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, the Armenian Democratic-Liberal Party (Ramgavar) and the Tekeyan Cultural Association Haykashen Uzunian are cordially perceived in Armenia and in the Armenian Diaspora and create a unique bridge between Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora. Today, Haykashen’s daughters, Taleen and Ani, continue with dignity what Haykashen Uzunian started.” The minister also praised Tatul Hagopian’s book Looking from Ararat: The Armenians and the Turks, which is dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
The Haykashen Uzunian Award was granted to Tatul Hagopian for his book Looking from Ararat: The Armenians and the Turks, Suren Sargsyan for his book Armenia Newspaper at the Core of the Ideology of the National Liberation and Sargis Khachents for his book William Shakespeare.
