On October 20, RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hasan Rohani at the Iranian presidential residence. The head of government mentioned that the official visit to Iran would contribute to the strengthening of Armenian-Iranian economic relations and the increase of foreign investments.

“Armenia highly appreciates the close and friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran hinged on the centuries-old friendship between our nations. Armenian-Iranian relations are at a high level and continue to develop in an atmosphere of mutual confidence. The agreements are generally implemented, and this goes to show the determination to further deepen the friendly and practical relations existing between the two countries,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.

Hasan Rohani welcomed Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran and mentioned that it would contribute to further deepening of the Armenian-Iranian friendly relations in different sectors. According to the President of Iran, Iran is willing to support Armenia’s initiatives and the implementation of joint programs.

The interlocutors attached importance to the deepening and expansion of cooperation in several sectors, particularly energy, agriculture and culture.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan mentioned that Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union provides the opportunity to become a link between the Union and foreign businessmen. The head of government stressed the fact that Armenia has created favorable conditions for investments.

The Iranian President praised the role of the Iranian-Armenian community in the development of different sectors.

The sides touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and regional issues.

Prime Minister Abrahamyan mentioned that Armenia is consistent with a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the scope of the OSCE Minsk Group. The sides underlined the importance of a peaceful settlement of regional conflicts and the need for ensuring stability in the region.

Hovik Abrahamyan transmitted RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s invitation to Hasan Rohani to attend the Armenian Genocide Commemoration ceremony to be held in Yerevan on April 24, 2015.

In his turn, the President of Iran transmitted his kind wishes to the RA President and the Armenian people.

During the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan and the Iranian President also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
