Founding director of Silvia’s Costumes, benefactor Silva Chakmakchian handed passport of the citizen of the RA

On October 17, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received U.S.-based businesswoman, founding director of the world famous Silvia’s Costumes clothing store, benefactor Silva Chakmakchian.
Silva Chakmakchian was born in Beirut. She and her family moved to Armenia during the 1946-47 Great Repatriation, after which she and her mother moved to the United States of America when she was 19 years old.
At the age of 33, Silva started her own company called Silvia’s Costumes and began to sew costumes for famous artists, singers and well-known cultural figures. For 30 years, she has been providing American stars with the shine and splendor and has been the best and reliable partner for famous costume designers.
The minister praised Silva Chakmakchian’s efforts and achievements and mentioned: “Although you became famous due to your hard work in the distant United States of America, you didn’t forget your compatriots who move to the USA. You support the Armenian community and church in Los Angeles and extend a helping hand to the socially disadvantaged people in Armenia by sending them clothes and assistance.”
Minister Hranush Hakobyan attached special importance to Silva Chakmakchian’s assistance to the Syrian-Armenians who have moved to Armenia.
The minister handed the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Armenia to Silva Chakmakchian to the sounds of applause from the employees of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
Expressing gratitude for the cordial reception and for helping her obtain the passport of the citizen of the Republic of Armenia, Silva Chakmakchian mentioned that she will continue to support the Armenian community and the people of Armenia.
“You deserve the several awards that you have received, including the awards granted by U.S. President Barack Obama and His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. You are the mother of two brilliant children, the best friend a person can have and a great person,” the minister mentioned.
After the meeting, the participants of the event stood up and listened to the song “Hayastan”.
