Hranush Hakobyan: “Song is the most powerful weapon for preservation of national culture”

On October 2, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received members of the Kantegh Choir of Los Angeles led by artistic director Gevorg Chakmanyan.

The minister highly appreciated the choir’s activities and mentioned: “Song is the most powerful weapon for preservation of national culture. You carry out a tremendous task by disseminating Armenian songs and helping generations of Armenians connect to Armenian culture. Evidence of that is the Kantegh Choir and Gevorg’s Taron Children’s Choir. The children, who practically don’t know Armenian, learn Armenian songs and become the inheritors of Armenian culture.”

In 2010, Gevorg Chakmanyan moved to the United States of America, settled in Los Angeles and created the Kantegh Adult Folk Choir for adult troubadours and the Taron Children’s Folk Choir.

The sides discussed the concert to be held at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on 7 October.

Expressing gratitude for the cordial reception, Gevorg Chakmanyan congratulated the RA Ministry of Diaspora on its 6th anniversary and assured that the choirs would continue to work with more vigor.
