Greek President visits Armenian Genocide Memorial
On September 29, President of Greece Karolos Papoulias, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Armenia, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial with the accompaniment of RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan and Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan.
President of Greece Karolos Papoulias laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, after which the members of the Greek delegation laid flowers near the eternal flame perpetuating the memory of the victims and paid tribute to the innocent victims with a moment of silence.
Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan told President of Greece Karolos Papoulias and the members of his delegation about the history of the memorial complex.
The President of Greece also visited the Remembrance Garden where he watered the fir tree that he had planted during his first visit in 2007.
The Director of the AGMI Hayk Demoyan granted the Fritdjof Nansen Gold Medal to the President.
On September 9, 2014, the Parliament of Greece passed a draft law criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide, and the Parliament of Greece recognized the Armenian Genocide on April 25, 1996.
