Greek-Armenian community celebrated the 23rd anniversary of Armenia’s independence
On September 22, the RA Embassy in Greece hosted a reception dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia at Athenaeum Hall of the Intercontinental Hotel in Athens.
The event began with performances of the Armenian and Greek national anthems, with the accompaniment of the Honorary Reserve of Armenian students studying at the Evelpidon Military Academy of Greece.
In his welcoming remarks, RA Ambassador to Greece Gagik Ghalachyan briefly presented Armenia’s development after independence, the development of Armenian-Greek relations, Armenia’s successes and achievements, stressing the importance of achieving more success and addressed the role of the Greek-Armenian community in the reinforcement of the Greek-Armenian partnership in different spheres.
Among those attending the event were former speaker of the Parliament of Greece, Head of the Greece-Armenia Friendship Group A. Kaklamanis; former head of the Greece-Armenia Friendship Group, leader of the Democratic Lefts Party F. Kuvelis; delegates of the Greek delegation to the PACE, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs K. Gerontopoulos; General Secretary of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Economic Relations and Cooperation P. Mikhalos; Deputy Governor of Attika E. Kiprianidou; Deputy Mayor of Athens S. Spiropoulou, as well as Greek deputies and government officials.
Among other attendees were the leaders and diplomats of diplomatic missions accredited to Greece, representatives of cultural, international and non-governmental organizations, scientists and cultural figures, high-ranking servicemen, businesspeople, journalists, as well as member of the Greek-Armenian community and community organizations.
Several high-ranking political figures and leaders of local self-government bodies delivered their congratulatory messages.
