Vienna hosted exhibition and conference devoted to Armenian carpet making and embroidery

The international conference devoted to Oriental carpet making is taking place at the Pale San Susi ceremonies hall in central Vienna on 15-19 September. The conference is organized by the International Conference of Oriental Carpet Making and the Society for Studies on the Art of Weaving and will include an exhibition devoted to Armenian embroidery and carpet making.

As reported by the MFA news service to “Hayern Aysor”, the event is organized through the combined efforts of the RA Embassy in Austria, the Armenian Carpets Association of the USA, the RA Ministry of Culture and the Gevorg and Azniv Telfeyan Carpet Exhibition Hall of Vienna.

In his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, RA Ambassador to Austria Arman Kirakossian presented unique samples of Armenian carpets and embroidery from Artsakh, the current and historic Armenia and the adjacent territories spanning four centuries and reflected on the geography of the samples gathered from Armenia, Artsakh, the USA, France, Switzerland and Austria by Vienna-based carpet expert Artur Telfeyan.

The conference included speeches by scientific worker of the University of San Francisco Lauren Arnold, expert of the Center for Armenian Folk Arts representing the RA Ministry of Culture, Dr. Ashkhung Poghosyan and owner of the Ashjian Textile Exhibition Hall, French-Armenian Berge Ashjian.

Member of the U.S. delegation, President of the Armenian Carpet Association, Mr. Joseph Bezjian delivered his welcoming speech at the conference.

The participants of the conference were provided with the list of samples of the exhibited carpets, which was published for the participants of the conference and exhibition and included the history of Armenian carpet making.

The delegation from Armenia and Artsakh actively participated in the conference and exhibition under the leadership of Director of the Center or Armenian Folk Arts Hovik Hoveyan.

Representatives of international science journals (JOZAN Magazine, HALI Magazine, etc.) specializing in carpet making also actively participated in the conference and exhibition.
