International genocide scholars to meet in Yerevan in July 2015

On 8-12 July 2015, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute will be hosting the 12th Conference of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) with the title “Comparative Analysis of Genocides of the 20th Century”, as posted on the official website of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

Holding this prestigious conference in Yerevan will be unprecedented in terms of the number of participants, high academic rating and, of course, in terms of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

The conference will bring together hundreds of the top international experts in genocide studies and adjacent fields.

The conference will be dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the 70th anniversary of WWII and the 70th anniversary of the Holocaust.

“This conference will be a special event for Armenologists and particularly scholars studying the Armenian Genocide. Armenia will be hosting hundreds of reputable academics and young experts. Their participation in the 12th Conference of the International Association of Genocide Scholars will serve as a good opportunity for them to have a deeper understanding of the Armenian Genocide and the consequences thereof and, why not, become more familiar with Armenia and Armenian culture,” president of the local organizing committee for the conference Hayk Demoyan mentioned.

In 1997, the International Association of Genocide Scholars recognized the Armenian Genocide, and in 2010, it was granted the award of the President of the Republic of Armenia for remarkable contributions to Armenian Genocide recognition.

The International Association of Genocide Scholars is the largest and leading association of scholars studying genocides and crimes against humanity. It was founded in 1994 by well-known genocide scholars Israel Charny, Helen Fein, Robert Melson and Roger Smith and currently has more than 500 members from different parts of the world.

The goal of the Association is to study and show the motives behind genocides that have happened in the world in order to prevent the repetition of genocides. The Armenian Genocide is always in the focus of study of the members of the International Association of Genocide Scholarrs.
