RA Minister of Diaspora receives Varand and Christin Hovnanian

On August 26, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan received founders of the Komitas Choir of Glendale, Varand and Christin Hovnanian.
Greeting the guests, the minister expressed gratitude for their pro-national activities aimed at preserving the Armenian identity, as well as disseminating and preserving Armenian culture in the Armenian Diaspora.
The Komitas Choir of the Armenian Youth Association of California was established in 2004 with the purpose of preserving Armenian language and culture abroad. The artistic director of the choir is Mikayel Avetisyan. The 48-member choir has performed in Fresno and San Francisco, has participated in several events and has received awards and diplomas.
The Komitas Choir performed in Armenia for the first time during the Choral Arts Days that were part of the 2nd “My Armenia” Pan-Armenian Festival organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora this year.
By the decree of the RA Minister of Diaspora, the choir was granted the Gold Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora for its great contribution to the preservation of the Armenian identity and pro-national activities.
Varand Hovnanian was awarded the “Komitas” Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora for his great contributions to the difficult task of creating the choir and for advocating the art of the great Komitas.
