Diaspora Armenian Johanna Ekmejian teaches Flamencoto Armenian students
Johanna Ekmejian, who has arrived from Spain, is a dance specialist.
Johanna lives in Seville, considered beingthe Capital of Flamenco. She has been dancing since childhood.
“I have been fond of dancing ever since I was little. I know various types of dances, but Flamenco is a soulful dance for me. I teach Flamenco, but I also take Flamenco classes″- said Johanna.
My first visit to Armenia was when I was too young. This is my second visit to the Homeland.
“I was born in France and currently I live in Spain. But my parents were born in Armenia and speak good Armenian. I cannot speak Armenian very well, but canunderstand it″ – added she.
During her sojourn in Armenia, Johanna expressed a wish to give classes of Flamenco for the Armenian dancers.
With the assistance of the Ministry of Diaspora, on August 1, a meeting in the Department of Art of Danceat the Faculty of Culture of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh.Abovyanwas held, so that she could share her own experience with her compatriots.
The Head of the Department of the Art of Dancing, Profession Karen Gevorgyan and the students received Johanna with warmth.
Professor Karen Gevorgyan greeted and thanked her for being the guest of their University.
“It is our pleasure to host you here. I think that our students will learn Flamenco con anima. I would like to thank the Ministry of Diaspora for organizing this meeting” – said K Gevorgyan.
Before switching to the practical part, Joyanna gave some background information about what is Flamenco and where it comes from.
″Flamenco comes from the southern regions of Spain. It is the outcome of the cultural mixture. It is comprised of three key bases. The first basis is the song, the second one – dance and the third one – guitar. Flamenco represents all the human feelings. It is impossible to live without feelings” – added she.
Johanna thanked the Ministry of Diaspora, hoping that such meetings will be organized on an ongoing basis.
The classes will last for two days.
