Commemoration of genocide of Pontos Greeks

On 19 May, all Greeks and civilized mankind commemorates the genocide perpetrated by the Turkish government against the Greeks of Pontos.

More than 500,000 Greeks of Pontos were killed during the genocide that was perpetrated by the Turkish government with the scenario and as brutal as the genocides perpetrated against the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians.

Throughout the past decade, the Greeks of Pontos have been making great efforts to demand Turkey’s recognition of the genocide. Although the issue hasn’t been discussed very much, it is leading to recognition and condemnation of the genocide of the Greeks, especially in the USA and Australia where there are several Greek communities.

Thanks to the zealous and consistent efforts of the Armenian National Committee of Greece, the Pontos-Greeks and Assyrians have established cooperation to solve the issue of the genocide. Throughout the cooperation, the fact that the only way of preventing such crimes against humanity is adopting a common strategy has always been stressed.
