Armenian Genocide Commemoration events in Lithuania

On Apr. 24, several events dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were held in Lithuania with the participation of Deputies of the Seymas of Lithuania, representatives of the diplomatic corp, public figures, representatives of Lithuania��?s ethnic minorities, academic and journalistic circles and members of the local Armenian community. As reported by the RA MFA press office, large delegations of Armenian communities from Estonia and Latvia, as well as nearly 30 students of the Waldorf School of Armenia had also come to Lithuania to participate in the events.

The series of Armenian Genocide Commemoration events began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Lithuania.

Afterwards, the Lithuanian version of Franz Verfel��?s novel 40 Days of Musa Dagh was presented at the Genocide and Resistance Center in Lithuania. Among the speakers were Ambassador Ara Ayvazyan, Member of the Seymas of Lithuania, member of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Group, Vice-President of the Friendship Group with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Povilas Urbshis, renowned writer Vahagn Grigoryan, writer, publicist, public figure Marite Kontrimayte, vice-president of the Council of Ethnic Minorities of Lithuania Ruslan Harutyunyan and the Lithuanian translator of the novel Leonas Petravichyus.

In the evening, representatives of the Lutheran, Orthodox and Protestant Churches of Lithuania participated in a Divine Liturgy in memory of the innocent victims of the first Genocide of the 20th century, which was served by the Catholic Prelacy of Lithuania and the Armenian Apostolic Church at the St. Paul-Peter Catholic Church for the first time ever. The liturgy was organized by the RA Embassy.

Lithuania’s public television, radio and presses provided wide coverage of the Armenian Genocide Commemoration events.
