Genocide expert presents 55-year career in the book Eyewitness Accounts of Survivors

Genocide expert Verjine Svazlyan held a press conference to present her 55-year career through the book Armenian Genocide: Eyewitness Accounts of Survivors, which she published with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in Armenian and English in 2011.

“The book includes the eyewitness accounts of 700 survivors. It wasn’t easy to meet them and write their memoirs down since they still had the fear they had during the era of Stalin,” said Verjine Svazlyan, mentioning that she has been to Armenia and different countries and has visited the convalescent homes where there were other eyewitnesses.

The Turkish version of the book has been published in Turkey and is on sale. The book was translated by Rakep Zarakolu, who was recently in Armenia to present the Turkish version.

According to the genocide expert, the book includes not only studies, but facts about the Genocide and people’s stories.

“Some people want to compare the Armenian Genocide with the Jewish Holocaust, but we Armenians were the first to see the Holocaust in Van and Mush,” Verjine Svazlyan said, adding: “We don’t need Turkey’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide. We need reparation.”
