Georgian-Armenian Diocese paid tribute to victims of the April 9 tragedy

On Apr. 9, clergymen of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia, the Diocese’s officials and faithful gathered near the Holy Etchmiadzin Armenian Church of Havlabar district in Tbilisi and laid flowers in front of the cross-stone placed by the local Armenians as tribute to the victims of the tragedy that took place in Tbilisi on April 9, 1989. Primate of the Georgian-Armenian Diocese, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan and clergymen performed a Requiem Mass for the souls of the participants of the peaceful demonstration for Georgia’s independence to rest in peace. After the ceremony, the Primate talked about the centuries-old Armenian-Georgian friendship and the good will of the two Christian nations to support each other at time of sorrow and happiness.
Afterwards, the representatives of the Diocese and the Hayartun Center visited the place where the tragedy had taken place 25 years ago and laid flowers in front of the monument dedicated to the victims of April 9, which is located in front of the Parliament of Georgia on Rustaveli Avenue.
