First European organization officially responds to issue of Armenians of Kessab

The European Ombudsman Institute, which consolidates hundreds of Ombudsmen and advocates across Europe, has responded to Karen Andreasyan’s appeal regarding the issue of the Armenians of Kessab, according to the official website of the Human Rights Defender of the RA.

The following is particularly stated in the statement:

“The European Ombudsman Institute was informed from Armenia’s Ombudsman, Mr. Karen Andreasyan about the state of human rights in Syria, particularly Kessab. As a member of the European Ombudsman Institute, Armenia’s Ombudsman, within the scope of his monitoring and intermediary mission, calls for necessary cooperation and assistance to all the sides involved in the conflict.

In these difficult circumstances and this tragedy we must continue to make all efforts to protect human rights in the region and solve the crisis in the country in peace, as well as establish constructive cooperation with the civil society and international organizations on the basis of international law.

The European Ombudsman Institute calls on and urges all the sides of the Syrian crisis to take the road of peaceful and direct dialogue to overcome the current crisis, under the light of the international principles of human rights.”
