Senior Consul Hrair Karapetyan presented situation in Kessab

At the request of Armenia’s Senior Consul in Saint Petersburg Hrair Karapetyan, meetings have been held with Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Alexey Sergeyev, corresponding secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Piotr Riabukhin and Consul General of Greece in Saint Petersburg Theodoros Pizakis as a representative of the country with chairmanship In the European Union.

Armenia’s Senior Consul’s Office in Saint Petersburg told NEWS.am that during the meetings, Hrair Karapetyan presented the statement of Armenia’s President on the events in the Syrian town of Kessab and the motives behind them.

Karapetyan informed that nearly 670 families have been compelled to leave their historic residences, their homes have been robbed and churches have been destroyed due to the operations of Turkey-backed terrorist groups. For the third time in history, ethnic cleansing took place in Kessab, and Turkey is directly responsible for that. What’s especially troubling is the fact that the events are taking place ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The interlocutors mentioned that they are also concerned about the events taking place in Syria, shared the Armenian side’s concerns and said they would transmit the Information to the structures and countries that are members to their organizations.
