Twenty-two Kessab Armenians kidnapped, houses looted
Twenty-two Armenians have been kidnapped from Syria’s Kessab and taken to a newly built prison near the Turkish border.
The fate of 11 of them is unknown, all of them being aged people, Vice-Chairman of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP) in Armenia, Syrian-Armenian Vazgen Mesrobyan told reporters on Monday.
Three oldest Armenians have been set free and will soon arrive in Latakia.
“The terrorists use the refuges Armenians’ mobiles, call their relatives and threaten them. All the houses in Kessab have been looted,” Mesrobyan said.
According to him, no one has so far been killed, with only two persons wounded. Most of the Armenians in Latakia are staying with their relatives now.
The situation is critical in Aleppo as well. “I am urging the mass media not to forget Aleppo,” Mesrobyan said.
“This is not a revolution or a demand for a change of the ruling regime. This is terrorism, and the world is, as usual, standing aside from the events,” Mesrobyan said.
Speaking of the Armenian MPs’ visit to Syria, he said Armenia should not be contented with it. Mesrobyan urged the Armenian government not to restrict itself to denouncing the events in Kessab.
“They must lodged a complaint with international structures against genocidal Turkey,” he said.
