45th military base of Latakia under control of Syrian army

On Mar. 30, the Syrian army kept vigil at the 45th military base located in the north of Latakia. As reported on Latakia’s Facebook page, the army continues to throw bombs in the direction of the strategically significant Tel an Nasr in order to initiate large-scale military operations in Kessab. According to SANA news agency, the Syrian army has caused severe damage to the soldiers near Mount Kuz, Kur Ali and the 45th military base and has seized their weapons.

Syrian presses also report that the army’s units have spread near Kessab. In the past two days, hundreds of Turk, Azerbaijani and Chechen soldiers have been killed in Latakia.

Activists say forests were burnt during the clashes between the Syrian army and the rebels. The Syrian air forces threw missiles toward the forests in the villages of Latakia where the armed rebels were based.

The attack on Kessab began from eight points on the border with Turkey by the Jabha an Nusra and Jeysh al Islam terrorist groups on Mar. 21. Almost all the residents have moved to safer areas. More than 700 Syrian-Armenian families are at the Saint Mary Church in Latakia. The local Armenian Emergency Unit and the Red Crescent of Syria have provided the people with food and necessary accessories.
