Athletes of Artashat returned with gold medals from the Armenian Junior Freestyle Wrestling Championship

Gevorg Tadevosyan, who is a student of the Razmik Goletsyan Olympic Reserve School of Artashat, participated in the 2014 Armenian Youth Freestyle Wrestling Championship in Yerevan (7-9 March) in the 55 kg weight category, won third place and joined Armenia’s Youth Wrestling Team. Tadevosyan will go on to participate in the European championships. As the Olympic School’s director Grigor Simonyan told “ArmenPress”, the students returned with high results from the Armenian up-to 17 junior freestyle wrestling championship held in Yerevan. During that championship, the school’s athletes became champions in two weight categories. Fifteen-year old Vazgen Tevanyan performed in the 46 kg weight category, won his five opponents and became a champion. Narek Hovhannisyan (50 kg weight category) also became a champion. Simonyan said Grigor Baghdasaryan (42 kg) lost to his opponent in the final battle, won second place and received a silver medal. Suren Pokhanyan (50 kg) and Arman Andreasyan (54 kg) won third place and scored bronze medals. Hovhannes Vardanyan (46 kg) and Gegham Galstyan (58 kg) also performed well. Among the athletes participating in the championship were nearly 300 athletes from all sport schools of the Republic of Armenia. Artashat’s sport school was represented by 15 athletes trained by Rafik Goletsyan and Vardan Gyurjyan. Vazgen Tevanyan and Narek Hovhannisyan, who were in the top list, joined Armenia’s junior team. They will be participating in the European Junior Championship to be held in Bulgaria after several trainings and international tournaments in May and will go on to take part in the World Junior Championship to be held in Slovakia in August.
