Trial for Dink’s murder was reinitiated and postponed in Istanbul

Istanbul’s 14th High Criminal Court has postponed the fourth, reinitiated trial in relation to the murder of founder of Agos Weekly Hrant Dink scheduled for Feb. 12th to April 18th, reports the Turkish Radikal.

Before the court trial, the “Friends of Hrant Dink” had gathered in front of the Chaghlayan Chamber of Justice where, on behalf of the “Friends of  Hrant Dink”, Agos Weekly representative Karin Karakashlen announced that if Dink’s murder remains unrevealed, the government can’t be legitimate. Karakashlen also announced that Dink’s murder is “the continuation of the tradition established within Turkey”. According to him, this trial can help reveal “all the dirty games” that have been played in Turkey’s not too distant past. Karin added that if there is no fair solution to the issue, they will “continue to fight until the end”.

Hrant Dink was murdered on January 19, 2007. After the five-year trial, on January 17, 2012, the court announced its verdict, according to which the Turkish court acknowledged Yasin Hayal guilty of organizing Dink’s murder and gave him a life sentencing. Earlier, murderer Ogyun Samast had been sentenced to 21 years and 6 months in jail for a planned murder.

In January 2013, Turkey’s republican prosecutors declared the verdict as invalid. Recently, the prosecutor for Dink’s case was changed. The previous prosecutor was removed from office due to discrepancies between the government and the judicial system.
