Armenia is a good economic partner for China-Tian Changchun

The cooperation between Armenia and China is developing in the economic, political and cultural spheres.

This is what Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Armenia Tian Changchun said in an interview with “ArmenPress”, adding that Armenia is first and foremost a good economic partner for China.

“Our economic cooperation is ongoing, and there are serious prerequisites for development. One of the items on the agenda of bilateral relations is the development of economic relations,” the Ambassador mentioned. According to him, financial and economic assistance is one of the important components of China’s policy on Armenia.

Evidence of that is the agreement on 100 million Yuan in additional assistance to Armenia signed during RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s meeting with Prime Minister of China Lee Ketsian in Dalian city on September 10, 2013, as well as the agreement on development of trade and economic relations, which envisages the establishment of an inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation that will serve as an important step for the development and strengthening of economic ties. For Tian Changchun, the best example of cooperation is the implementation of several educational exchange programs between Armenian and Chinese universities. “Every year, Armenian students travel to China, and nearly 20 Chinese students receive the opportunity to continue their studies in Armenia,” the diplomat said. Touching upon the cultural sphere, the Ambassador mentioned that China appreciates the fact that Armenia always holds big events to celebrate Chinese holidays, brilliant evidence of which is the Chinese New Year celebrated in early February.

Within the scope of interstate cultural cooperation, the Ensemble of Disabled Persons of China will give a concert in Yerevan, making it the first time in its 30-year old history. The Ensemble’s concerts are scheduled to take place in Yerevan in mid-March. The Ensemble includes 110 persons with limited disabilities. In July 2013, the friendship between Armenia and China was summed up in a book entitled “China Through the Eyes of Armenians”, which was released on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and China.

The book presents the stories about and impressions of China told by 13 renowned Armenians of different spheres.

Based on information posted on the official website of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the legal-contractual base for relations between the two countries is strengthened by nearly 40 documents. In 2012, Armenia exported 31,200,000 dollars in products to China and imported 400,400,000 dollars in products. The supply of mining materials plays a huge role in Armenia’s exports. Import is much more diversified and includes a variety of products, including clothes, shoes, automobile construction parts and chemical products, as well as food, devices, construction materials and more.
