Armenia has become a member of the Executive Board of the UNDP, UNPF and Project Implementation Unit

Armenia has become a member of the Executive Board of the UNDP, the UN Population Fund and Project Implementation Unit for three years (2014-16) during the 2014 sitting of the UNDP, the UNPF and the Project Implementation Unit taking place in New York, reports the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”.
Speaking at the Jan. 27 sitting as newly elected member of the Executive Board, RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan expressed Armenia’s full support to the UNDP, the UNPF and the Project Implementation Unit for the implementation of new global and strategic programs and the Armenian government’s willingness to promote the successful partnership and effective cooperation with those organizations.
Touching upon the priorities stated in the interim programs, Ambassador Nazaryan pointed out the importance of the goals for sustainable development, precise assessment of climate change and disaster risks, effective institutions and women’s promotion that will become a component in the agenda for development in the period after 2015. Nazaryan also attached importance to the efforts aimed at engaging member states, UN agencies and non-governmental organizations in the development of the mentioned programs.
Praising the irreplaceable role of the UNDP in several countries as the UN’s resident coordinator, the RA Ambassador mentioned that the UNDP carries out more than two dozen development programs that fall in line with Armenia’s priorities and needs for development.
Reference: The UNDP is one of the major organizations of the United Nations. Its main functions are the implementation of the policy developed by the UN General Assembly, the study of the activities carried out by UN Funds and Programs, the confirmation of the program implemented in member states, the promotion of new initiatives and more. The UNDP comprises 36 members.
