Armenia’s Defense Minister sees no threat of war

On the frontline the Armenian Armed Forces have always played the compulsive and retributive role. The subversive actions were followed with a corresponding response and the situation in the border is under control. As reports “Armenpress” the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan stated about it at the press conference held on January 24, adding that the shots of the Azerbaijanis on January 19-20 were conditioned with their Black January. “The Azeris carried out black days and genocide against the Armenian people before and after January 20. The incident was followed by a corresponding response. The Armenian Armed Forces respond only in case of regular shots,” the Minister stated, adding that there is no threat of resumption of war at this moment, as the Armed Forces of Armenia stand on the border to keep peace and carry out their mission very well. Besides, the Republic of Armenia along with the international structures holds negotiations to avoid war and maintain peace in the country.

The Armenian Armed Forces announced that they are ready to carry out a relevant investigation on the frontline. “The Azerbaijani authorities did not agree, but we unilaterally implement investigation and present the material evidences to the public,” Seyran Ohanyan said. As to the critics not sounded by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, the Minister stated that it is due to their activities that there is relative peace at the moment and it is the result of their balanced approach that the tension on the border has not reached the culmination.

The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have recently intensified the shots towards the Armenian villages. Previously it was reported that simultaneous attempts of penetration by the Azerbaijani subversive groups were recorded between 23:50 and 00:15 on January 19-20 (on that day the Azerbaijanis mark the Black January, when the Soviet army entered Baku to prevent the massacres of the Armenians) in the
north-eastern (Jraberd) and south-eastern (Korgan) directions of the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing armies. The front units of the Armed Forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic noticed the actions of the Azerbaijani subversive groups and started an organized defense in both directions. The rival was thrown back suffering palpable human and material losses. Junior Sergeant Armen L. Hovhannisyan died from the wounds he received during the exchange of fire in the north-eastern direction. Besides, the 16-year-old Lianna Anikyan received a gunshot injury, when Azeri armed forces late Thursday launched sporadic attacks in the direction of several villages of Armenia’s Tavush Region. Her condition is stable. The girl is in the hospital now, she has been operated on. Her condition is assessed as
normal.
