ANCA urges Congress to reduce military assistance to Azerbaijan

The Armenian National Committee of America urges the U.S. Congress to reduce military assistance to Azerbaijan.
According to “ArmenPress”, ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian has strictly condemned the Azerbaijani diversion groups’ actions on the Karabakhi-Azerbaijani line of contact on the night of January 19. Hamparian praised the heroic act of deceased Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan, who managed to push the opponent back along with his fellow soldiers. “Azerbaijan’s latest fatal attack on the line of contact deeply and painfully stresses the price that was paid for human losses caused by lack of action of the international community to counterattack Baku’s raid to restart a war in the Caucasus. This should serve as at least an alert here in Washington so that Congress stops providing military assistance to Azerbaijan,” Aram Hamparian mentioned.
On the night of January 19, Azerbaijan’s diversion groups made an attempt to penetrate the line of contact from both sides. The frontline subdivisions of the NKR Armed Forces noticed the actions of the diversion groups, organized defense in both directions and pushed the opponent back to its positions, making it suffer human and material losses. As a result of the attack, Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan was shot and died while courageously defending the combat position stationed in the northeast.
President of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan has issued a decree, according to which Junior Sergeant of military unit N of the NKR Defense Army Armen Hovhannisyan has been granted the Posthumous Medal “For Courage” for being courageous during the defense of the NKR state border.
RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan informed on 21 January that the 9-member subdivision in the position pushed two Azerbaijani special significance subdivisions back. On January 22, the brave hero Armen Hovhannisyan will be buried at Yerablur Pantheon in the military order. The ceremony will include a military escort and a performance by the military orchestra. High-ranking officers will visit the pantheon to pay their tribute. Comments glorifying the courageous soldier’s endeavor are posted on all social network websites.
