Meghry Hamazkayien Dance Ensemble of Philadelphia Celebrating the Centennial of the first Republic of Armenia

It is heartwarming to see young Armenian learning and practicing Armenian traditions through dance, music and culture. Especially children that are thousands of miles away from the homeland. Hamazkayin is the catalyst that enables and strengthens the foundation of feeling of being Armenia in the young.

On May 11th 2018, Radnor, Pensylvannia, was busy with more than 200 people attending to watch the 4th Meghry Annual Recital. A rich and beautiful program was presented by the 38 boys and girls of the Meghry Ensemble.

The program began with an impressive entrance of the dancers holding flags and dancing to the “HayenkMenk” song. As they walked toward the stage, the excitement and cheers resonated not only in the hall but way beyond into the general community.

The youngest group “Gogon” stole the hearts of the audience with their dances, innocent smiles and beautiful costumes.

The “Abaka”, middle group are truly the Abaka of our generation and specifically for Meghry. They continue to perpetuate our heritage through our songs, dances and traditions.
The experience of the professional “Hoyagab” group came across so clearly as they danced with grace and emotions. Their perfection was inherent in every move. To highlight a few of the traditional dances that impressed the audience; Mr. Kevork Artinian with 6 Hoyagab dancers performed a dance from Sayat  Nova  “Kamancha”; as well as the traditional Armenian dance of Kochari etc. These dances were choreographed by Mr. Garik Khachikyan (the well-known chortographer from the T. Altunian dance group in Armenia) and Mr. Barkev Sanossian.

Talented singers of the Meghry group enriched the program by participating and contributed with a number of solo songs.

It is the power of experience that will resonates in the minds of many of the young Armenian dancers.

They all shined on the stage.
