Akhaltsikhe celebrates Vardavar

On July 8, the Armenian Holy Apostolic and Orthodox Church celebrated the Feast of Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Vardavar Water Festival). On this occasion, the Spiritual Superintendence of Akhaltsikhe had organized a pilgrimage to the “Mother Church” chapel located near Tsughrut village.
For centuries, this shrine has been a place for believers to gather, especially during the Vardavar Water Festival, but a Holy Mass had never been served during the past couple of years.
To make the day complete, a Holy Mass was served and broke the centuries-old silence with the providence of God.
At the “Mother Church” chapel, the Holy Mass was served by pastor of the districts of Akhaltsikhe, Priest Torgom Vardanyan.
Among the attendees were the believing pilgrims of Akhaltsikhe and the nearby areas.
Spiritual superintendent of Akhaltsikhe and Borjomi, Friar Hakob Sahakyan properly interpreted the symbol of the day and, once again, talked about the miracles that happened to several Armenians who visited the “Mother Church”.
After the Holy Mass, the attending pilgrims congratulated each other on the Feast of Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Vardavar).
