European Parliament votes in favor of EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement

The European Parliament has voted in favor of the consent to the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the resolution on EU-Armenia relations. This is what Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashtoyan wrote on his Facebook page. According to him, the consent to the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement passed with 573 votes “for”, 50 “against” and 45 abstentions, while 598 delegates voted “for”, 52 voted “against” and 27 abstained from voting for the resolution on EU-Armenia relations. This is stated in Ashotyan’s post.
Ashotyan wrote that the European Parliament considered the issue of giving consent to the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement during its July 3 session.
The main reporter was Deputy Laslo Tokes, and the related reporter was Federica Mogherini. Among the participants of the discussion were delegates of the European Parliament representing various political factions.
“The agreement was rated as a success story and a historic opportunity, and it was emphasized that it was made possible and signed during the term of the previous government. Mogherini particularly stressed the fact that the agreement is not geopolitical and confrontational.
The interior political life and the latest developments in Armenia were touched upon, special attention was paid to the peaceful and constitutional change of power in Armenia, importance was attached to the ensuring of an inclusive mechanism for reforms in the Electoral Code, the political opposition’s involvement in the process of reforms and implementation of the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. The European Parliament also expressed willingness to send an observatory mission to the potential elections,” wrote Ashotyan.
The issue of liberalization of visas was also raised. Mogherini linked the issue to full implementation of the Agreement on Visa Facilitation and Readmission, expressed satisfaction with the process and said that the European Council must make a relevant decision on launching the dialogue over visa liberalization.
Importance was attached to the peaceful and rapid settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
