Garo Pailan: “Pashinyan is Armenia’s worthy leader”

Deputy of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish and oppositional Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Garo Pailan has given an interview to the Turkish Bianet. During the interview, Pailan answered many questions and talked about Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and “Yelq” (Way Out) parliamentary faction.
When asked how he would assess the latest developments that unfolded in Armenia (Velvet Revolutin-ed.), Pailan particularly said the following:
“In September 2007, I visited Armenia and had meetings with several government officials. I said that I wanted to meet with members of all political parties and parliamentary factions in Armenia, and among them was the “Yelq” (Way Out) faction led by Pashinyan.
I was told that “Yelq” was a small parliamentary faction and that there was no need for a meeting, but I disagreed.
It turned out that the members of the parliamentary faction had great ideas and that the parliamentary faction’s ideology was very close to that of my political party. “Yelq” (Way Out) is a political force that supports justice, legal equality and supports women’s rights. I had a long meeting with Pashinyan.
Of course, I wasn’t expecting all this to happen so quickly. In just a couple of months following our meeting, they came to power through a truly democratic revolution and without any bloodshed. Pashinyan is Armenia’s worthy leader. I am very happy and congratulate them. They also want Turkey to open the borders with Armenia without preconditions. If Turkey has a democratic government, I hope the borders with Armenia are opened immediately.”
