In November 2017, the Armenian community of Denver opened an Armenian Saturday school in order to provide Armenian children of Denver with an Armenian education and upbringing and keep them away from the danger of assimilation.
The school has 40 students between the ages of 4 and 16. They attend Armenian language classes and native studies classes and will soon be taught Armenian dances as well. The school’s Principal is Ruzanna Avetisyan.
As reported the school’s Armenian language teacher Gaiane Zakaryan to Hayern Aysor, the school, which operates with the help of the community’s supporters, exerts all efforts to introduce the schoolchildren to Armenian history and culture and help them preserve the Armenian language.
“Parents bring their children to our school with great excitement because they are concerned about their children’s identity issue, even the parents who are foreigners and married to Armenians. Those foreigners try to not keep themselves and their children clung to Armenian roots,” Gaiane Zakaryan stated.
The Armenian school has already organized two events, including the event devoted to the New Year and Christmas and the solemn opening of the letter “A”. Among the attendees of the New Year’s event were representatives of the Armenian Organization of Colorado (AOC), members of the local Armenian community, as well as parents and other guests.
Let us add that the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia will soon provide assistance to the newly opened Armenian Saturday school of Colorado through the program for providing textbooks and supporting materials to Armenian schools of the Diaspora.
