Armenia becomes vice-chair of bureau of UNESCO Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

On February 13, Armenia, as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the UNESCO, became vice-chair of the Committee’s bureau, receiving the unanimous support of the Committee’s member states.

Nominations for vice-chairmanship were held during the Committee’s 12th session held on December 4-9, 2017 in the Republic of Korea, and the nomination was finally approved during online consultations held in February of this year.

Armenia is a member of the Committee for the period of 2016-2020.

Reference: The Intergovernmental Committee is one of the major bodies of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and is composed of 24 members representing six regional groups. One of the major functions of the Committee is to make a final decision on the applications submitted by member states for being registered in the lists established by the Convention.
