Ara Karapetyan appointed general director of Novosibirsk’s State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet
Ara Karapetyan has been appointed the new general director of the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet in Novosibirsk (SATOBN), reported the theater’s administration to Interfax, according to Armenpress.
“Today he was introduced to the crew by Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky. Karapetyan was nominated after long negotiations, consultations and competitions,” the news agency’s interlocutor said.
In 1994, Karapetyan graduated from Leningrad Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, specializing in “opera-symphony conducting”.
In 1992, he started pursuing his career after directing Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Tosca” at the Conservatory’s music theater. From 1992 to 1997, he was the conductor of Tchaikovsky Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet in Perm.
From 1997 to 2005, he served as the conductor of the Stanislavsky and Demirovich-Danchenko Music Theater (Moscow); from 2005 to 2013 — the managing director of that theater; from 2013 to 2016 — the general director.
From September 2016 to May 2017, he served as the vice-president and artistic director of the Grand theater of Harbin (People’s Republic of China and the Grand Theater of Tiantszin (People’s Republic of China).
Since September 2017, he is the director of the Pokorvsky State Academic Chamber Music Theater in Moscow.
