Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute to be restructured into foundation

Upon the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute State Non-Commercial Organization of the National Academy of Sciences will be restructured into a foundation, reported armradio.am.
The relevant decision was adopted during the December 21 session of the government.
According to the justification, the need for restructuring of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute is due to the creation of more favorable conditions for implementation of the development programs of the Museum-Institute.
The change of status will help raise the level of effectiveness of the Museum-Institute’s management and ensure investments from various sources, including Diaspora Armenians.
After restructuring, the Museum-Institute is expected to turn into a scientific center with a higher level of autonomy that will engage foreign scholars and researchers and will shape the international community’s attitude towards the Armenian Genocide in order to help foreigners have the understanding that they need to have about the Armenian Genocide.
“The change of the organizational-legal status will provide a wide opportunity to use funds more flexibly and effectively and carry out activities that require additional investments, engaging benefactors and representatives of Armenian communities of the Diaspora as well. The status of a foundation implies more sovereignty and self-management, particularly through a board of trustees that will be competent to establish new types of entrepreneurial activity,” the justification reads.
