“Mekhitarist Congregation in Venice-300” international conference set to kick off

On October 24 at 10:00, the sessions hall of the presidency of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) will host a two-day international conference, which is entitled “Mekhitarist Congregation in Venice-300” and will be held as part of the events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Mekhitarist Congregation on St. Lazarus Island. The conference is organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora, the Armenian Studies and Social Sciences Section of the NAS RA, Yerevan State University, the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) and the Mekhitarist Congregation in Venice with the support of the State Committee on Science of the RA Ministry of Education and Science.

President of the NAS RA Radik Martirosyan will deliver his opening remarks.

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan; Pontifical Delegate of the Mekhitarist Congregation in Venice, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey, Archbishop Levon Zekiyan; academician-secretary of the Armenian Studies and Social Sciences Section of the NAS RA Yuri Suvaryan; Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan and Director of the History Institute of the NAS RA Ashot Melkonyan will deliver their welcoming remarks.

Afterwards, from 14:00 to 16:30, the conference will be devoted to various topics (“Activities of the Mekhitarists in the Field of Historiography”, “Contributions of the Mekhitarists to Philology” and “The Activities of the Mekhitarists in the Arts and Culture”) in the A, B and C Sections of the NAS RA (sessions hall of the presidency of the NAS RA), B Section (sessions hall of the History Institute of the NAS RA) and  C Section (Library of the History Institute of the NAS RA), respectively.

Representatives of academic institutions (scholars, lecturers and intellectuals) will give their speeches.
