Armenia to celebrate Sparapet (Commander) Day for the first time ever

On October 7, Armenia will celebrate Sparapet (Commander) Day for the first time ever. The Youth Foundation of Armenia reports that several events will be held as part of the celebration to be held in Khndzoresk.
In particular, the event will be launched with performances by dhol and zurna players who will be standing along the length of the hanging bridge in Khndzoresk. The cadets of Khanperyants Military Aviation University and Sargsyan Military University will participate in and lead a march to the tomb of Mkhitar Sparapet (Commander Mkhitar) where they will make a military pledge and lay a wreath as a sign of respect.
The event will feature performances by Gagik Ginosyan’s Karin Armenian Traditional Song and Dance Ensemble. The members of the ensemble will teach Armenian military dances (kochari, yarkhushta, ververi) for those who wish to learn. A choir will perform psalms in the premises of St. Hripsime Armenian Church, and there will be an archery tournament.
Throughout the day, the attendees will be able to purchase eco-friendly and traditional dishes, pastries and drinks made by the local villagers. They will also witness performances by Arsen Grigoryan’s (Mro) ethnographic song ensemble, which will engage the attendees and turn the performance into a genuine national celebration.
The series of events will end with a gala concert that will feature performances by Shushan Petrosyan, the State Dance Ensemble, Gagik Ginosyan’s Karin Armenian Traditional Song and Dance Ensemble, Arsen Grigoryan (Mro) and the special military orchestra of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. There will also be screenings of films made for the gala concert. The celebration will end with a fireworks display.
